Low Carb Diets

I saw this on the Mayo Clinic Website:

Low-carb diets: An interview with a Mayo Clinic specialist

It's a pretty interesting read.  I did the Atkin's Diet a couple of years ago and lost about 30lbs, but it was HORRIBLE.  I finally got so tired of eating meat and cheese and of having that funky ketone taste in my mouth that I stopped. Of course, I gained it all back and then about 30 more.

One interesting quote from the article (emphasis is mine):

If you eat certain combinations of foods — for example high-fat, high-protein foods with carbohydrates — will you lose weight faster?

There's nothing special about certain foods or combinations of foods. A calorie is a calorie no matter when or how it's consumed.
I emphasized that section because a lot of people believe the bullshit that they shouldn't eat after a certain time at night.  If you're eating the right stuff, it doesn't matter when you eat it.  Eat one meal for 1,500 calories or 5 meals at 300 calories; 1,500 calories of peanut butter or 1,500 calories of green beans, you're weight will pretty much do the same thing.

That said, eating it all at once or on wasteful calories may not be the most EFFICIENT way for you to eat, but there won't be any drastic differences in weight loss/gains between the options.

Eat it all at breakfast and you're more prone to overindulge because your weak, starving ass finally breaks down and gives in to your Filet O' fish craving at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and you find yourself sitting in the McDonald's parking lot, stuffing a fish sandwich into your mouth, happy until you catch a glance at yourself in the mirror:  covered in fish crumbs, tartar sauce smeared around your lips like Ronald McDonald bukakeed all over your face, you finally stuff the last bite into your heaving mouth and hide the wrappers under your seat so that no one will see them...

Skipping breakfast because you think you're saving calories?  Until you eat your lunch, your body will burn the most readily available energy source it has--your muscles--and you'll probably still end up Super Sizing that Filet O' Fish combo, you dirty seafood whore.  Not only are you weak minded, your now weak muscled because you've been EATING YOUR OWN MUSCLES.  You dirty cannibal.

Moderation is the key.  Eat smart.
